City of London Academy, Southwark
Client: City of London Office: LONDON Project Value: £24m
This project involved the construction of a new school on a site in Bermondsey. The works were financed by the Department for Education and Skills with the City of London being the main sponsor in partnership with the London Borough of Southwark.
The works were carried out using a partnering form of contract – the Project Partnering Contract 2000 (PPC 2000) will all members of the team, including the designers, contractor and major sub-contractors jointly entering into one contract with the Client.
The works comprised the construction of two four storey school buildings totalling 9500m2 and a sports hall of 1500m2 – the two buildings being separated by an existing public road which splits the site in two.
Northcroft provided full Cost management services for all stages of the project from initial feasibility studies to completion of construction.
Awards
The City of London Academy was presented the coveted Prime Minister's Better Publie Buildings Award at the Building COnstruction Industry Awards on 26 october 2006. The judges called it "Brilliant. Inspiring. A knockout!" and applauded the "Outstanding planning and delivery."
